A melt-processed blend comprises: (A) 70-95 pts.wt. starch; and (B) 5-30 pts.wt. second polymer having an Mw of at least 80000 and contg.: (i) at least 70 pts.wt. units derived from an alkyl, cycloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl(polyalkoxy)alkyl and/or alkyloxy(polyalkoxy)alkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid; and (ii) up to 25 pts.wt. units derived from a vinyl or vinylidene monomer contg. an amide gp.; and/or (iii) up to 25 pts.wt. units derived from an unsatd. carboxylic acid (anhydride). Also claimed is a film, sheet or injection moulded object prepd. from the blend. Pref. the blend further contains a lubricant, pref. stearic acid; and/or a thermal stabiliser, pref. a hindered phenol. The hydroxyalkyl(polyalkoxy)alkyl or alkyloxy(polyalkoxy)alkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid is the mono(meth)acrylate ester of a polyalkylene glycol monoalkyl ether or of a polyalkylene glycol. The alkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid is methyl methacrylate or ethyl acrylate. |
