Synchronised gearbox for commercial vehicles

The fixed ratio gearbox has a conventional layout plus a servo drive which brings the speed of the layshaft to the optimum level for a rapid gearchange. This reduces the requirements on the synchromesh clutches and results in a faster gearchange. It is applied especially to heavy vehicles. The control can be applied to gearboxes with multiple layshafts by having each layshaft with a separate electric drive. The gearchange control monitors the speed of the layshaft and computes the required speed for each gearchange, either up or down. It also monitors the operation of the gear selector mechanism using pressure sensors.
