A recycling process for tin-coated steel scrap involves contacting the scrap with a hot oxidising off-gas stream from a steel melting furnace cause oxidation and removal of the tin layer, prior to melting of the scrap in the furnace. Preferably, the scrap is exposed to hot off-gas at /- 0.3 m/sec. flow velocity in a rotary tube furnace connected to the off-gas opening of the steel melting furnace and the scrap is mixed with an impacting medium. Also claimed is a regenerated steel production process involving the above recycling process.
