1,253,603. Coated paper. SCOTT PAPER CO. 28 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 27034/ 69. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3, C4 and C5] Paper is coated with an aqueous composition having a solids content of 70-82% by wt. and comprising a binder in an amount 7-30 p.b.w. per 100 p.b.w. total pigment, and a pigment, (i) 25-90% by wt. of which is a coarse pigment which has an "aspect ratio" not greater than 2:1 and at least 60% by wt. of which has an equivalent spherical diameter 72Á, and (ii) 75-10% by wt. of which is a fine pigment at least 60% by wt. of which has an equivalent spherical diameter <1Á. "Aspect ratio" is defined as ratio of greater to lesser dimension. In examples the binder is a styrene-butadiene latex, alone or with starch or casein, and a sodium polyacrylate or pyrophosphate dispersant is used; conventional coating methods are used, and the compositions are applied over a clay/starch base coating. |
