The apparatus for processing a sequence of control commands includes decoding units which are arranged to decode a predetermined set of control commands, which include an end command (CMDEND), which indicates the end of a control command sequence. The apparatus also includes a decoding units which are arranged such that when an unknown control command (SETBAREA) arrives, they react in the same way as when the end command (CMDEND) from the predetermined set of control commands arrives, when processing control command sequences having control commands which are not contained in the predetermined set.
