The arrangement includes an optical waveguide having an optical fibre in which at least one optical amplifier (6) is included. The amplifier is pumped by a laser (12) via a coupler (11). For each laser at least one separate solar cell (13) is provided. Preferably, the solar cell is buffered by a battery (14). A switch can be provided for automatic switching from solar cell operation to battery operation and vice versa.
