Process for demetallating a petroleum feedstream

A process for demetallating a metal-containing petroleum stream comprises subjecting the petroleum stream, in contact with an aqueous electrolysis medium, to a sufficient anodic potential and pH value to produce a treated petroleum stream having a decreased metals content. The petroleum feed is preferably one that traditionally has limited use in refineries due to its metals, particularly Ni and V, content.
