Built-in ashtray for a motor vehicle

The vehicle ash tray has a pull out drawer mounted in a recess in the dashboard. An electric cigarette lighter (18) is mounted on a pivot support frame and pops up into a sloping position when the ash tray is pulled out. A simple safety catch (34,36) secures the cigarette lighter and prevents it from being pushed down. The safety catch is only released when the ash tray is pushed back into the recess. This prevents the user from trapping fingers in the ash tray, or burning fingers by having to push down on the lighter when trying to close the tray.
