PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a cyclic alcohol in high yield by subjecting an organic additive after being used for hydration reaction to contact treatment with water in a specific temperature range and reusing the resulting additive for the hydration reaction when a cyclic olefin is subjected to contact hydration in a liquid phase in the presence of a solid acid catalyst and the organic additive. SOLUTION: Hydration reaction of a cyclic olefin is carried out by mixing a water phase with an oil phase containing the cyclic olefin in the presence of a solid acid catalyst (preferably zeolite, etc.) and an organic additive (preferably an aromatic carboxylic acid, a phenol or a cyclic saturated carboxylic acid). The hydration reaction mixture is separated into the water phase and the oil phase and the water phase containing the catalyst is separated and circulated to a reactor to recycle the water phase and the cyclic alcohol is purified and recovered from the separated oil phase by distillation, etc., and the residual solution containing the organic additive after being used for hydration reaction is subjected to contact treatment with water at 80-250 deg.C and the, reused for hydration reaction. |
