POLYFUNCTIONAL REPRESSOR OF GENE FUNCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new gene capable of suppressing phenotype expression of functionally equivalent gene of a virus in a trans superiority way, coding a protein to prevent the replication of a virus and controlling the replication of a retrovirus causing a serious disease. SOLUTION: This new gene suppresses phenotype expression of functionally equivalent gene of one or more kinds of viruses in a trans superiority way and consequently, codes a protein to prevent the replication of one or more kinds of viruses. Otherwise its functional fragment or derivative. The gene is useful for a medicine for controlling the replication of a virus, especially a human immunodeficiency 1 type virus (HIV-1) to cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS) or a human T cell leukemia I type virus(HTLV-I) to cause an adult T cell leukemia (ATL). The gene is obtained by incorporating a rex (the controlling element of virion protein expression) gene of HTLV-I into a vector, transducing the vector into Escherichia coli and inducing mutation in the gene.
