PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly hydrophilic coating material excellent in hydrophilicity, corrosion resistance, stain resistance, adhesion, etc., hardly causing abrasion of a mold and a processing tool and capable of providing a coating film hardly causing smell by formulating alumina sol, water-soluble acrylic resin and a specific cleansing component of a staining material. SOLUTION: This highly hydrophilic coating material includes (A) an alumina sol, (B) a water-soluble acrylic resin and (C) a cleansing component ]of a staining material selected from among polyethylene glycol, a modified material thereof, a copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide and a modified material thereof. The component A preferably comprises particles having about 0.5-20μm average particle diameter obtained by aggregating colloidal size particles and further having shape or form like a feather, a stick or a spring. The component B is preferably a water-soluble acrylic resin obtained by copolymerizing 30-50wt.%α,β-unsaturated monomer having a sulfo (sodium salt) group, 20-50wt.%α,β-unsaturated monomer having a carboxylic acid and 20-40wt.%α,β-unsaturated monomer having an alcoholic hydroxyl group so that the total may be 100%.
