PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a double-coated self-adhesive tape which simplifies the execution of butt joint work of wall covering materials and dispenses with the adjustment of a wall base with putty by laminating a water-activable self-adhesive layer (e.g. a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol layer), a substrate layer, and a specific acrylic self-adhesive layer. SOLUTION: The water-activable self-adhesive layer, for bonding wallpapers, vinyl chloths, etc., to this tape, is formed from a water-soluble starch, a water- soluble polyvinyl alcohol, or a water-soluble polyethylene oxide. A suitable substrate layer is a 50-300μm-thick film formed from a relatively hard resin (e.g. a polyester, a polypropylene, or a rigid vinyl chloride resin) or a metal foil (e.g. a steel or stainless steel foil). The acrylic self-adhesive layer for bonding this tape to a wall base is formed by using an acrylic copolymer obtd. by copolymerizing 70-99.5wt.% (4-12C)-alkyl (meth)acrylate and 0.5-30wt.% polar vinyl monomer.
