PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing (poly)alkylene glycol mono(higher alkyl) ether in high selectivity and high yield by reacting a long chain olefin with a (poly)alkylene glycol in the presence of a crystalline metalosilicate as a catalyst, and returning a (poly)alkylene glycol di(higher alkyl) ether, etc., obtained as a by-product to the reaction system. SOLUTION: (A) An 8-30C olefin having an ethylenically unsaturated bond, e.g. dodecene, is reacted with (B) a (poly)alkylene glycol, e.g. monoethylene glycol, in the presence of a crystalline metalosilicate as a catalyst, and a (poly) alkylene glycol di(higher alkyl) ether, etc., obtained by the reaction as a by- product is continuously recovered and successively recycled to the reaction system. The molar ratio of the component B to the component A is 0.05-20, the formulating percentage of the catalyst of component C to component A is 0.1-100wt.%. The reaction is performed at 50-250 deg.C under a pressure of a normal pressure to 20kg/cm<2> for 0.1-100hr. |
