1,178,944. Change-speed control. BORG-WARNER CORP. 8 May, 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 21862/68. Heading F2D. A gear-change mechanism incorporates interlocking mechanism between the shift rods which also engages with end stops on the rods to prevent their movement beyond the gear engaged position. As shown a pair of shift rods 22, 23 operated by a ball mounted gear change lever have grooves 30, 31, 32 at one end engageable by a ball detent 36 and at the other end have a groove 50 between shoulders 52, 53. The interlocking member consists of a transversely movable pin 71 with rounded ends which, on the rod 23 being moved to the gear engaging position shown, is forced into engagement with the groove 50 of rod 22 to lock it in the neutral setting and at the same time engages the end stop shoulder 53 to prevent any further movement of rod 23. As applied to an arrangement with three shift rods, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), a pin 71 is mounted on each side of the central rod (22A) with a plain transverse interconnecting pin (81) mounted in the central rod. |
