1308099 Polymers containing N-substituted (meth)acrylamide groups LONZA Ltd 12 July 1971 [14 July 1970] 32667/71 Heading C3P Polymers containing N-substituted acrylamide and/or methacrylamide groups are obtained by reacting polymers containing acrylic acid imide and/or methacrylic acid imide groups at 0-120‹ C. with an amine of formula in which R is H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, hydroxyalkyl or carboxyalkyl radical. The reaction may be conducted in suspension in water or a water/solvent mixture or solution in an organic solvent. In examples, the starting material is polyacrylimide, polymethacrylimide, acrylimide/methacrylimide copolymer, acrylimide/ methyl methacrylate copolymer, acrylimide/ acrylic acid copolymer or methacrylimide/ methacrylonitrile copolymer; the amine reactant is ethylamine, butylamine, benzylamine, ethanolamine or glycine; and the reaction medium is water, methanol, isopropanol/water, acetone/water, dimethyl formamide or dimethyl formamide/water. |
