PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an orientating agent capable of providing a high pretilt angle and preparing a liquid crystal display element excellent in stability of the pretilt angle, comprising a polyimide precursor containing a specific chemical structure as a resin component. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal orientating agent comprises a polyimide precursor [preferably a polyamic acid (ester)] containing a chemical structure of the formula ((n) is a natural number of 1-10; R1 and R2 are each methyl, ethyl or phenyl) as a resin component. The polyimide precursor containing the structure of the formula, is obtained, for example, by reacting 1,3-bis(3- aminopropyldimethylsilyl)benzene with a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, etc., in a polar solvent. The orientating agent comprises the resin component and a solvent component. A mixed solvent of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidoine and butyl Cellosolve (R) may be preferably cited as the solvent component. Consequently a liquid crystal display element excellent in indication and high in reliability can be provided. |
