A document handling apparatus for compiling a set of document sheets is provided. The apparatus includes a tray having a surface for receiving the sheets and an air flow source operably associated with the tray. The air flow source provides for an air pressure adjacent the tray and spaced from the surfac e of the tray which is substantially below ambient air pressure whereby the settli ng of the sheets on the surface of the tray is quickened.
