FIELD: textile industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing slit between spool flange and supporting surface of weft insertion device housing; inserting thread into slit; winding thread on spool; cutting thread between spool and bobbin; clamping thread end extending from bobbin. Slit is formed by means of thread itself at the place of contact with spool flange and supporting surface of weft insertion device housing. Weft insertion device has housing, spool with upper flange and member for urging spool toward supporting surface of housing. One of parts, supporting surface of housing or spool flange, is provided with contact surface having entrance face adjacent to thread guide of filling thread charging mechanism of weft insertion device. EFFECT: simplified construction of weft insertion device, increased capacity of loom and enhanced reliability in operation. 4 cl, 4 dwgs
