SUBSTANCE: annealed (oxa)-hydantoins have formula I <EMI ID=0.216 HE=24 WI=30 TI=CHI> where R and R are H or (C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>4</SB>)-alkyl; R and R are H, (C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>4</SB>)-alkyl or phenyl, or R and R together form carbocyclic ring, Q is residue of Q<SB>1</SB> or Q<SB>5</SB> having formula <EMI ID=0.217 HE=27 WI=21 TI=CHI> and <EMI ID=0.218 HE=33 WI=27 TI=CHI> respectively where W is O or S, R is H or halogen; R is halogen or CN; R is H, OR<SP>11</SP>, CO<SB>2</SB>R or NHSO<SB>2</SB>R ; R<SP>8</SP>, R is H, R is (C<SB>3</SB>-C<SB>6</SB>)-alkynyl; R is (C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>8</SB>)-alkyl, (C<SB>3</SB>-C<SB>8</SB>)-alkynyl, (C<SB>3</SB>-C<SB>8</SB>)<SB> </SB>-alkoxycarbonyl alkyl, (C<SB>2</SB>-C<SB>8</SB>)-alkoxyalkyl or (C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>8</SB>)-haloalkyl, R is (C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>4</SB>)-alkyl, (C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>4</SB>)-haloalkyl.
