<p>An integrated computer-telephone system includes a personal computer (141), a PC add-in board (142), a plurality of telephone set adapters (102A.....102N), and a plurality of telephone sets (104A.....104N). Each of the telephone sets is connected, through a respective one of the telephone set adapters, to a telephone network (106) via a telephone line (101), and to audio circuits at the PC via high frequency audio communication channels (316). The personal computer controls the telephone set adapters via a high frequency control channel (318). The audio communication channels and control channel do not interfere with regular signal transmission between the telephone sets and the telephone network. The add-in board includes circuits (364) that can detect Caller ID information associated with incoming telephone calls. For specific, pre-setup callers, the PC can look up the associated entry (614) in memory (506) and cause a unique announcement to be broadcast to speakers at pre-selected adapter boxes. The user of this system can know who the caller is without going to the telephone. New callers can be added to the list of known callers. After a call is terminated, the user picks up the telephone which establishes a communication channel to the PC. The user speaks a command and a message to be associated with this caller.
