Polyester furniture units - for articles of complex double curvature eg chair backs

A wooden or steel premould is fabricated with an adjustable cover, the model is attached to the cover whose surface is then entirely covered with plasticine. The premould is remounted and a polyester casting formed to support a silicone mould. the silicone mould is poured and after hardening is ready to form the moulded articles in polyester. The premould is prepd. from the model by projecting its contours on a base sheet, enlarging the contours by fixed amounts to make templates for the premould which may be formed of laminated wood. Two narrow tubes penetrating the plasticine are used to supply the silicone rubber. PRocess may be used for making e.g. car seat backs. It is possible to make complex unitary mouldings without join marks in double curvature.
