<p>A novel multiphase steel has the compsn. (by wt.) 0.12-0.3% C, 1.2-3.5% Mn, 1.1-2.2% Al, less than 0.2% Si, balance Fe and impurities (including P and S) and has a pearlitic structure consisting of up to 70 vol.% soft polygonal ferrite and balance bainitic ferrite and more than 4 (pref. up to 20) vol.% carbon-enriched residual austenite, opt. with smaller amounts of carbon-enriched martensite. The Al content is less than 7.6 x Ce, where Ce (carbon equivalent) = %C + 1 divided by 20 x %Mn + 1 divided by 20 x %Cr + 1 divided by 15 x %Mo = 0.2 to 0.325. Also claimed is the prodn. of rolled products of the above steel.</p> |
