PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject copolymer fiber causing no discoloration, excellent in steam iron resistance, thermal stability and coloring properties and useful for clothes, etc., by treating a fiber composed of ethylene-vinyl alcoholic copolymer having a specified ethylene content under a specified condition. SOLUTION: This fiber comprising ethylene-vinyl alcoholic copolymer having 25-70mol% ethylene content is treated in a solution of pH 1.0-5.0 containing one kind of a compound of formula I [R1 to R4 are each an alkyl; R1 and R2 , and R3 and R4 are each alkylene forming rings respectively; R5 is H or a alkyl; (n) is 2-10] at 100-140 deg.C under pressurization. A useful cross-linking degree (K %) of the formula II [(m) is a number of linear methylenes and/or methine included in the cross-linking part; Tmk is a melting point ( deg.C) of the ethylene-vinyl alcoholic copolymer fiber after the cross-linking; Tmo is a melting point ( deg.C) of the ethylene-vinyl alcoholic copolymer fiber before the cross-linking] of the objective treated fiber of the ethylene-vinyl alcoholic copolymer satisfies the condition of formula III [(x) is the content (mol%) of ethylene]. |
