摘要 <p>A long tubular envelope has at one end an optical resonator, at the other end a gas escape combined with window for the laser beam, a feed part for the carbon dioxide and on each side of the optical axis a set of electrodes, one being esp. a continuous bar and the other set a number of spikes each connected independently via a resistor to one side of the high voltage source, the bar being connected to the other side. The electron flow in the discharge across the optical axis is controlled to a value e.g. 0.2-1.0 eV. Elimination of vacuum pump, sealed windows etc. leads to very large cost reduction and this follows the use of a pump discharge at atmos. pressure or above.</p>
