Compsn. contains cpds. of formula:- CCl3-CH(OH)-X-R (where R = 1-10C alkyl (opt. substd. by halo, -OH, -SH, alkoxy, alkylmercapto, aryl) alkenyl (opt. substd. by aryl), cycloalkyl (opt. alkyl substd.) or aryl (opt. substd. by halo, alkyl, -OH, alkoxy, -NO2) X = O or S). Many of the cpds. are novel.
