In a selvedge mechanism of the kind in which a needle inserts short picks of selvedge thread into the edge of the fabric and a retaining pin holds the loop whilst the needle retracts from the shed, the mechanism is driven through a gear box enabling it to be operated on every pick of the loom or only on alternate picks. For continuous operation, the output shaft of the gearbox is clutched to a gear train driven by the input shaft; for intermittent operation, it is clutched to a Geneva mechanism which imparts one revolution to the output shaft on alternate revolutions of the input shaft. |
