Melanotic pigment composition in the form of particles with spherical cores of diameter less than 1 mu m comprises at least one wax and an emulsifying surfactant and an outer sheath layer enveloping the core consisting at least one compound obtained by oxidative polymerisation of a precursor of a melanotic-type pigment.
