PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject copolymer, excellent in color tone or melt stability and capable of providing a molding product hardly containing fisheyes by copolymerizing ethylene with a vinyl ester, then adding a thiol compound thereto, removing the unreacted monomers and subsequently saponifying the resultant product. SOLUTION: Ethylene is copolymerized with a vinyl ester such as vinyl acetate in the presence of a solvent such as methanol, and a thiol compound having amino group and/or carboxyl group such as cysteine is then added thereto. The unreacted monomers are removed and the resultant copolymer is subsequently saponified to produce an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer. |
