System and installation for improving the performance levels of gas turbines located in areas with low atmospheric pressure using the rise in supply-air pressure and the subsequent reduction in the pressure of the exhaust gases, prior to its being exhausted to the atmosphere. Supercharging is enhanced by means of the conditioning of the air by cooling before entry into the gas turbine compressor. The potential energy from the exhaust gas pressure can be recovered in an expander or turbine which generates mechanical and/or electrical energy. The installation includes means 4 for increasing the supply-air pressure of the turbine and means 9-11-14 for reducing the exhaust gas pressure. <IMAGE>
