PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve frost damage resistance and mechanical strength by molding a hardenable inorg. compsn. consisting of an SiO2 -Al2 O3 reactive body, an alkali silicate and water in a desired shape and hardening the resultant molded body by heating. SOLUTION: A hardenable inorg. compsn. is prepd. by blending 100 pts.wt. SiO2 -Al2 O3 reactive body contg. 10-90wt.% SiO2 and 90-10wt.% Al2 O3 with 0.2-450 pts.wt. alkali silicate represented by the formula, M2 O.nSiO2 (where M is one or more selected from among Li, K and Na and 0<=n<=8) and 10-1,500 pts.wt. water or further adding <=700 pts.wt. inorg. filler having 0.01-1μm average particle diameter, <=10 pts.wt. reinforcing fibers having 1-15mm fiber length and 10-100 pts.wt. org. or inorg. expanded body having a specific gravity of 0.01-1. This compsn. is molded in a desired shape and hardened by heating to 50-200 deg.C to obtain the objective inorg. dense hardened body having pores of 0.1-10μm diameter by 0.02-2ml/g pore volume.
