PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the growth element with excellent handleability, of which manufacture cost is inexpensive, which is useful for a roof or the like, by which sodding is uniform by mounting and holding seeds at a certain appropriate position by a seed mat. SOLUTION: Relating to this growth element 10 for sodding an artificial surface (roof or the like) or a natural soil surface provided with a growth carrier 12 formed from an inorganic and/or organic material for growth and a bottom part carrier layer 20 as needed, the growth carrier 12 is provided with the seed mat 14 of a bio-degradation material provided with flexibility. The seed mat 14 is provided with the seeds 16 at an interval from each other and the seeds 16 are stably mounted and held at the certain appropriate position by the seed mat 14. Also, it is preferable that the seed mat 14 is provided with a bottom layer and an upper layer attached to the bottom layer, the seeds 16 are held between the layers and the upper layer and the bottom layer are formed by a non-woven material.
