For even heat distribution over the area covered, looped self-regulating heating elements (3) fit closely in parallel channels (26) formed in 0.2mm thick aluminium sheets (25) covering, and bonded to, thick thermally insulating baseplates (23) of e.g. foam plastic, resting directly on a roughly finished sub-floor (19). Base-plate edges, parallel to the channels, are rebated (34,36) to give overlapping flush joins with laterally adjacent plates. On the transverse edges the plates are tongue-and-groove connected. This composite mounting plate is easily cut to fit the room, using a saw. After the elements have been installed, a covering layer (5) is deposited, with a finished floor surface (65). |
