Foods which change in volume and/or weight during cooking may be measured into suitable initial portions or rations per person by using a cylindrical pot (1). The pot is cylindrical and transparent and has a vertical scale (2) marked in volume (mL). The pot also has two rings (5,6) at it's neck which slide parallel to each other. The first ring (5) shows the number of rations required of a particular type of food and the second ring (6) when used in conjunction with the first shows the initial volume required to produce the final number of rations.
