Device fitted to aircraft to reduce risk of mid-air collision

The device is fitted to both the local aircraft (1) and the aircraft (2) intruding in its safe air space. The device is a combined emitter-receiver to allow exchange of information with other aircraft. Position determination modules provide two sets of position data. The local aircraft has a processor (15) to determine relative distance and altitude of the intruding aircraft. The processor contains a memory storing relative position data tracking the paths of the two aircraft, and predicting their future paths to determine the risk of collision between the two aircraft.
