The pressure regulator has its body formed from lower (2) and upper (4) halves with a flexible membrane (9) between. A piston (3) attached to one side of the membrane is acted on by the reference pressure. The pressure to be regulated is delivered to the other side of the membrane. When the inlet pressure is less than the reference pressure the membrane deforms and brings the end of the piston, which is fitted with a sealing ring (8), in contact with the seat in the lower half of the body, blocking the outlet passage (13). Conversely when the pressure is higher than the reference the opens the outlet to allow fluid to pass.
