The road sign system comprises a generally elongated panel member made, for example, of extruded transparent plastic material with a sheet of light-reflecting material embedded therein. The road sign system also comprises a generally flat base member made, for example, of recycled rubber and formed with a vertically-extending slot to receive the lower end of the panel member. Connecting elements are provided to retain the lower end of the panel member in the slot of the base member. The plastic material of the panel member may comprise polycarbonate which presents the advantage of being (a) shock-resistant to withstand an impact with a motor vehicle, (b) flexible to bend upon passage of the motor vehicle, and (c) resilient to return to its initial generally upright position after the passage of this motor vehicle. |
