PURPOSE:To improve selectivity of the objective compound and to reduce discoloration of reaction product solution in producing the title compound by reacting ammonia with ethylenediamine and monoethanolamine by making hydrogen exist in the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:(A) Ammonia is reacted with (B) ethylenediamine and (C) monoethanolamine in the presence of hydrogen using phosphoric acid, a condensate thereof, dihydrogen phosphate, a corresponding pyrophosphate or hydrogen phosphate as a catalyst in the molar ratio of the component A/C=1 or above, preferably 6-50 and the molar ratio of the component B/C=0.01-10, preferably 0.05-5 at 150-400 deg.C, preferably 200-350 deg.C to give a noncyclic ethyleneamine having a wide industrial use, especially ethylenediamines such as ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine or triethylenetetramine and to suppress discoloration in the production. |
