A games racket has a one-piece moulded frame comprising an oval main frame portion 1 perforated to receive strings and two converging branch members 2 extending therefrom to form a handle 3, the branch members being joined by a strut 18 which, with the branch members 2 and the main frame portion 1, defines a secondary frame portion 19, the branch members also being perforated so that some of the longitudinal strings of the main frame portion I may extend across the secondary frame portion 19, (Fig. 11, not shown). As shown, the frame is moulded from a metal, e.g. a light alloy, and the oval main frame portion is formed as two U-section members 4, 5 joined together at intervals by struts 10, the outer wings 6, 9 only extending to form the branch members 2 as U-sections with slotted webs; this skeletal metal frame is provided with a plastics filling 27, either moulded around the frame or formed as removable plugs, and the filling is drilled to form holes 28 for the strings, a groove 30 being formed in the outer face and connecting the holes for protection of the strings. Alternatively, the frame may be formed as an H-section member comprising only one pair of wings connected by a web having a reinforcing rib through which the holes are drilled, (Fig. 12, not shown).</p> |
