The mutants preferably have attenuated galactokinase and galacto - 1 - phosphate-uridyl transferase activity. They may be produced by subjecting a culture of Salmonella typhi to a mutaferic treatment and then injecting it with a smooth specific bacteriophase, e.g. type FO-1, thereby removing the normal smooth bacteria but retaining the rough mutants. |
