An improved ballast circuit controls the power delivered to a fluorescent lamp for use in industrial plants where the input voltage is on the order of 347 volts. The ballast circuit comprises passive power factor correction to increase the overall power factor of the circuit to above 95 % while also reducing the total harmonic distortion to less than 20 %. The ballast circuit protects the fluorescent lamps from overvoltage when the lamps are nearing the end of their lifetime, or burnout. Adaptations to connect compact fluorescent lamps are also induced. |
