<p>This invention relates to a process and apparatus for making crumb rubber from a scrap tyre. When a mixture of passenger and truck tyres are received they are sorted so that the passenger tyres are separately processed from the truck tyres. This enables the various types of rubber which are available in the passenger tyres and truck tyres to be separately processed and then finally sized and bagged. The side walls are first cut from the scrap tyre and then the tread ring is elongated and placed under tension during the abrading of the tyre tread surface to produce the crumb rubber. With truck tyres, the sidewalls are removed from the scrap tyre by a pair of rotating blades, one on each side of the tyre. Wherein the blades are at an upwardly extending angle during the cutting operation.</p> |
