Protective hood which, following use, secures a syringe against subsequent risk of pricking and reuse. The protective hood 7 is advanced by the pretensioned spring 12 when the syringe 1 is emptied, in that the pawl release 4 - which is part of the plunger 3 - will squeeze together the two holding pawls 10 of the protective hood 7 such that the protective hood 7 is freed and is thrust forward when the syringe 1 with needle 13 is emptied and pulled out. At the same time, the needle 13 will be pushed aside by the pressure from the locking pawl 8 when the motion of the protective hood 7 ceases as the blocking collar 9 butts against the two locking buttons 5 of the syringe 1, thereby simultaneously enabling this lateral motion. The syringe 1 and the protective hood 7 are simultaneously locked, the locking pawl 8 engaging in the locking groove 6 of the syringe 1. <IMAGE>
