The theft protection device identifies the vehicle via a vehicle registration number, a chassis identification number and a colour identification code contained within a double glazed window, divided into an upper evacuated region and a lower region which is not evacuated. The lower region of the window containing the identification elements can only be accessed via a glass cover (9) provided with a coded lock (6), normally supplied from the vehicle battery and provided with a stand-by battery. A dye is dispersed into the vacuum region upon attempted removal of the glass cover or the entire window.
