Method and aircraft tractor for preventing overloading of an aircraft nose wheel, in which the aircraft nose wheel is located on and fixed to a platform located on the aircraft tractor, and in which the aircraft tractor comprises means for adjusting the engine or brake power transmitted to the wheels of the aircraft tractor so as to limit the impact of the force transmitted from the aircraft tractor to the aircraft nose wheel. The nose wheel is supported in such a way in relation to the aircraft tractor that the aircraft nose wheel can be displaced in relation to the aircraft tractor along a path running in the longitudinal direction of the tractor, the path being designed so that it has a lowest point in relation to the aircraft tractor and so that forwards and rearwards of the lowest point and in the longitudinal direction of the aircraft tractor it has an inclination to the horizontal increasing progressively with distance from the lowest point, such that the nose wheel, via the platform, is acted upon by a force in the longitudinal direction of the tractor if the nose wheel moves away from a predetermined reference position, the said force increasing with the distance of the nose wheel from the predetermined reference position, and the distance from the predetermined reference position being measured, and the engine or brake power transmitted to the wheels of the tractor being limited as a function of the distance measured, in such a way that the force acting between the aircraft tractor and the aircraft nose wheel is kept within a predefined, permitted range. <IMAGE>
