1,274,667. Coated fibrous sheet material. WIGGINS TEAPE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 30 May, 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 27296/68. Heading B2E. [Also in Division D2] A fibrous sheet material has one or both surfaces coated with insolubilised alginate and starch, the weight ratio of starch to alginate being from 12:1 to 240:1, and to one or both coated surfaces there is adhered a layer of microscopic, pressure-rupturable capsules containing a transferable material. The fibrous sheet material may be of paper or woven or non-woven fibres. The transferable material may be a colour transfer agent, shoe polish, perfume or an adhesive. The alginate may be initially applied as a soluble salt which is subsequently insolubilised. The fibrous sheet materials may be prepared by applying an aqueous coating composition containing starch and a water soluble alginate or the two materials may be coated separately. The alginate may be insolubilised by reacting with aluminium ions present in the fibrous base material or by direct application of an aqueous solution of a salt of a polyvalent ion e.g. aluminium. The fibrous sheet material may be used as a record material e.g. in manifold sets. |
