A luminous material which emits light for a long time, longer than 10 hours, recovers the initial luminance when light is applied to it for even a very short time after the luminance has decreased, and has an improved visibility. The luminous material consists of a mixture of a first luminous component whose main components are strontium and aluminum and a second luminous component whose main components are zinc and sulfur. The luminous material can keep emitting light for a long time, longer than 10 hours while the luminance is decreasing, and by applying light to the material for a very short time of several seconds, the initial luminance can be recovered. |
