Optical filling level gauge especially for water in container

The optical filling level gauge has a light wave conductor extending across the height of a container, corresponding to a possible filling level and held at its wall. A first endface of the light wave conductor facing the inside of the container is provided with a reflection surface (31). A second endface of the conductor lying opposite the first endface as an indicating surface (47) for the filling level in the container. A strong light absorbing background surface (43) is arranged spaced at a distance from the surface of the reflection surface. The lateral extension of the reflection surface is larger than that of the indicating surface. The background surface is formed by an inner wall of the container, lying opposite the reflection surface. The distance amounts to about 1 to 5 mm, preferably about 2 mm. A gap (41) is formed between the reflection surface and the background surface, in which stands the liquid, corresponding to the filling level.
