A device for controlling gas-discharge lamps with two preheatable electrodes has a voltage supply and two electromagnetically decoupled parallel branches from the power supply, whereby each branch has one electrode of the lamp, an inductance and a switching transistor. There is also a control unit for alternate control of the switching transistors during light emission. In each of the branches is provided at least one further component which is located at least parallel to the electrode and leads to an increase in the stored energy in the branch. This further component is a second switching transistor as well as an inductance.
