The carbon brush (2) is received within a brush guide shaft (1) provided by the brush holder, with a spring (3) for biasing it into contact with the collector provided as a spring steel band, tensioned at either end for rolling it into a spiral. The rolled ends (6) of the spring steel band are secured by retaining lugs (5) on either side of the brush guide shaft, formed by bending cut-out sections of the guide shaft wall through an angle of more than 90 degrees.
