High-pressure accumulator for hydraulic systems

Movement of the dividing piston (7) produces within the storage space (9) a subspace (13) which can be shut off from the pressure medium connection (4) and serves to hold a residual volume between connection and piston seal (10) when the accumulator is emptied. The pressure in subspace at least equals that in the gas space (8) though the effective sectional area of the subspace is smaller than that of the gas space. The subspace is shut off from the connection by means of a stationary soft seal eg. O-ring. A cylindrical extension (5) reaching inwards from the cylinder base (3) is ringed by the O-ring and is matched by an opening (11) within the dividing piston. Thus when the accumulator is emptied the piston endface contacts the O-ring ahead of the piston end point so the O-ring is compressed to shut off the subspace in conjunction with the piston endface (12), cylinder base and piston seal.
